External applications

This page lists known applications that take advantage of the network interface in gqrx.

  • A gqrx to Hamlib interface to keep frequency between gqrx and a radio in sync when using gqrx as a panadaptor using Hamlib to control the radio
  • Download from github: https://github.com/g0fcu/gqrx-hamlib

  • A Perl module that provides a simple interface to the remote control protocol.
  • Download from Github or CPAN.

gqrx-scan (perl)

gqrx_scan (python)

Light scanner

  • A simple and light scanner implemented in ~35 lines Perl code
  • Download: See attachment.
  • There is also a GUI version written in wxPerl, see attachment.

I have written a tool to use with Gqrx, that is able to record conversations with a better use of the space on the disk blocking UDP packets that do not contain info.
Please visit: https://github.com/cybernova/SDRecord for more info

    • Hi Andrea,
Thanks for the info. I have added your application to the list.

hi , am having this errors after install gqrx and i wanted to test it
    Any help please

FATAL: Failed to open rtlsdr device.

Trying to fill up 1 missing channel(s) with null source(s).
This is being done to prevent the application from crashing
    due to gnuradio bug #528.

terminate called after throwing an instance of ‘boost::exception_detail::clone_impl<boost::exception_detail::error_info_injector >’
what(): Error in function boost::math::round(f): Value -inf can not be represented in the target integer type.

  • I have written a couple relevant tools:

GQRX::Remote is a Perl module that provides a simple interface to the remote control protocol.

    GitHub: https://github.com/DougHaber/gqrx-remote
    CPAN: https://metacpan.org/pod/GQRX::Remote

gqrx-ghostbox is a program written using GQRX::Remote to make a SDR behave like a ghost box. A ghost box is a tool used by paranormal researchers. They are often simple radio scanners, so it seemed like a good fit for SDR.

    • Thanks for the info. I have added your applications to the page.

Hi Alexandru, I see there’s a perl library for using gqrx as a scanner, but I wanted to make one in Python, here it is:

It doesn’t have nearly as many features as the perl version, but they’re ideas I can add in the future. Thanks for the awesome software!

    • Hello Matthew,
I have added your scanner interface to the list, thanks!
